The story
Nick has finished arranging lights around the doorway. He steps back beside Marnie, smooths one white lapel and waits for her assessment. The lights brighten in a gentle sequence. Then another section brightens. There is rather more doorway involved than she remembered.
“You said a few lights,” Marnie says. “A few arrangements,” Nick replies. Bram appears at the far end of the block carrying a paper bag. He sees the entrance immediately and raises a hand. Nick returns the wave with the air of a man whose directions have proved exceptionally clear.
Marnie tilts her head toward Bram. Nick studies the warm glow across the steps. “Barely noticeable.” She lets that settle, then straightens the small wreath at eye level. Nick gives her adjustment serious attention. When Bram reaches them, the three go inside together. The doorway has made its introduction; nobody needs a speech.
Choose the setting you will keep
Programmable lights offer room to change the atmosphere, but start with the everyday setting you actually want. Measure the route and the distance to an outlet. Compare indoor or outdoor suitability, lit length and control requirements. Check whether the model offers your preferred steady light and dimming options. Warm white beside an oxblood ribbon can carry plenty of Christmas on its own.
